3.1      GENERAL CAUTIONS

3.1.1      DRUM

An organic photoconductor (OPC) drum is more sensitive to light and ammonia gas thana selenium drum copyir.com Follow the cautions below when handling an OPC drum copyir.com

  1. Never expose the drum to direct light of more than 1,000 Lux for more than a minute copyir.com
  1. Never touch the drum surface with bare hands copyir.com When the drum surface is touched with a finger or becomes dirty, wipe it witha dry cloth or clean it withwet cotton copyir.com Wipewithadryclothaftercleaningwithwetcotton copyir.com

3.1.2      DRUMUNIT

  1. Before pulling out the drum unit, place a sheet of paper under the drum unit tocatch any spilt toner copyir.com

Makesurethatthe drumunitis setinposition andthedrum stayissecured witha screw before the main switch is turned on copyir.com If the drum unit is loose, poor contact of the drum connectors may cause electrical noise, resulting in unexpected malfunctions (RAM data change is the worst case) copyir.com
  1. Toprevent drum scratches,removethe development unitbefore removing the drum unit copyir.com

3.1.3      TRANSFERBELTUNIT

  1. Never touch the transfer belt surface with bare hands copyir.com

  1. Before installing the new transfer belt, clean all the rollers and the inner part ofthe transfer belt with a dry cloth to prevent the belt from slipping copyir.com

3.1.4      SCANNERUNIT

  1. When installing the exposure glass, make sure that the white paintis at the rearleft corner copyir.com
  1. Clean the exposure glass with alcohol or glass cleanerto reduce the amount ofstaticelectricity on the glass surface copyir.com
  1. Usea cotton pad with water or a blower brush to clean the mirrors and lens copyir.com
  1. Do not bend or crease the exposure lamp flat cable copyir.com
  1. Do not disassemble the lens unit copyir.com Doing so will throw the lens and the copy imageoutoffocus copyir.com
  1. Do not turn any ofthe CCD positioning screws copyir.com Doing so will throw the CCD out of position copyir.com

3.1.5      LASERUNIT

  1. Do not loosen the screws that securethe LD drive board to the laser diode casing copyir.com Doing so would throw the LD unit out of adjustment copyir.com
  1. Do not adjust the variable resistors on the LD unit, as they are adjusted in the factory copyir.com
  1. Thepolygon mirror and F-theta lenses are very sensitive to dust copyir.com Do not openthe optical housing unit copyir.com
  1. Donottouchtheglasssurfaceofthepolygonmirrormotorunitwithbarehands copyir.com
  1. After replacing the LD unit, do the laser beam pitch adjustment copyir.com Otherwise, anSC condition will be generated copyir.com

3.1.6      CHARGECORONA

  1. Clean the corona wires with a dry cloth copyir.com Do not use sandpaper or solvent copyir.com
  1. Clean thecharge corona casing with water first to remove NOx based compounds copyir.com Then clean it with alcohol if anytoner still remains on the casing copyir.com
  1. Clean the end block with a blower brush first to remove toner and paper dust copyir.com

Then clean with alcohol if any toner still remains copyir.com

  1. Do not touch the corona wires with bare hands copyir.com Oil stains from fingers may cause uneven image density on copies copyir.com
  1. Make sure that the wires are correctly between the cleaner pads and that there is no foreign material (iron filings, etc copyir.com ) on the casing copyir.com
  1. When installing new corona wires, do not bend or scratch the wire surface copyir.com

Doing so may cause uneven charge copyir.com Also be sure that the corona wires are correctly positioned in the end blocks copyir.com

  1. Clean the grid plate with a blowerbrush (not with a dry cloth) copyir.com
  1. Do not touch the charge grid plate with bare hands copyir.com Also, do not bend the charge grid plate or make any dent init copyir.com Doing so may cause uneven charge copyir.com

3.1.7      DEVELOPMENT

  1. Be careful not to nick or scratch the development roller copyir.com
  1. Place the development unit on a sheetof paper after removing it from the copier copyir.com
  1. Never disassemble the development roller assembly copyir.com The position of the doctor plateis set with special tools and instruments at the factory to ensure theproper gap between the doctor blade and the development roller copyir.com
  1. Clean the drive gears after removing used developer copyir.com
  1. Dispose of used developer in accordance with local regulations copyir.com
  1. Neverload types of developerand toner into the developmentunit other than specified for this model copyir.com Doing so will cause poor copy quality and toner scattering copyir.com
  1. Immediately after installing new developer, the TD sensor initialsetting procedure should be performed with SP2801 (TD Sensor Initialization) to avoiddamage to the copier copyir.com Do not perform theTDsensor initial setting with used developer copyir.com Do not make any copies before doing the TD sensor initial setting copyir.com
  1. When using a vacuum cleaner to clean the development unit casing, always ground the casing with your fingers to avoid damaging the toner density sensor withstaticelectricity copyir.com
  1. When replacing the TD sensor, replace the developer, then execute SP2801 (TD Sensor Initialization) and SP2962 (Adjustment of Drum Conditions) copyir.com

DisposalofHDDUnits

Neverremove an HDDunit from the worksite without theconsent of the client copyir.com

IfthecustomerhasanyconcernsaboutthesecurityofanyinformationontheHDD, the HDD must remain with the customer for disposal or safe keeping copyir.com

The HDD may contain proprietary or classified (Confidential, Secret) information copyir.com Specifically, the HDD contains document server documents and data stored in

temporary files created automatically during copy job sorting and jam recovery copyir.com

Such data is stored on the HDD ina special format so it cannot normally be read but can be recovered with illegal methods copyir.com

Reinstallation

Explain to the customer that the following information stored on the HDD is lostwhen the HDD is replaced:

  • Document server documents
  • Custom-made stamps
  • Document server address book

The address book and document server documents (if needed) must be input again copyir.com

  1. Enter the SP mode and execute SP5801 (Memory All Clear)
  1. Execute SP5825 (NVRAM Download) to download the data uploaded from the old NVRAM copyir.com
  1. Switch the machine off then on copyir.com
  1. Execute SP5990 to print another SMC report copyir.com Confirm that all the SP settings have been initialized copyir.com
  1. Execute SP3001-002 (ID Sensor Initialization) to initialize the ID sensor copyir.com
  1. Execute SP5907 (Plug & Play) and enter the brand and model name of the machine for Windows Plug & Play capability copyir.com
  1. Alsoset SP 1902 001 (amount of fusing unit web usedso far) to the mostrecentsetting copyir.com

Important

  • When you change the NVRAM, you lose all machine settings, and all data on the hard disk copyir.com
  • If you have a back-up of the NVRAM settings on an SD card froma previous time, then you lose a) the files that were stored on the hard disk after you made

the backup, and b) changes to settingsthat were made after you made the

backup copyir.com

  • In this condition, customers who are very worried about security must use the Data Overwrite Security unit to clean the hard disk (use the Erase All Memory function) copyir.com This is because the files onthe hard disk that you lost are still there copyir.com
